Chinese Medicine Acupuncture for Fertility
At Felicity Acupuncture and Herbal Clinic, offering person-centred care tailored to your unique body. And, acupuncture and herbal consultations are claimable on private health insurance depending on your cover.
Fertility Acupuncture in Chinese Medicine has a rich history spanning over 3000 years. Oracle bones excavated at the Yin Xu archaeological site (ancient capital city of the late Shang Dynasty, 1300–1046 BC) contain some of the earliest recorded references to obstetrical conditions.
And in the “Records of the Grand Historian” mentioned Bian Que, a Chinese Medicine practitioner renowned for his knowledge in acupuncture and moxibustion, and as an early specialist in women’s health.
Today, acupuncture serves as both a standalone therapy and a complementary approach to mainstream Western fertility medicine.
What Is Fertility Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a holistic health system that involves insertion of thin, disposable needles into specific acupuncture points along the meridians in the body to promote healing and balance. It is based on traditional Chinese medicine theory of Qi (pronounced as “chee”) - a vital energy that flows through the different meridians in the body. Imbalances in the flow of qi can lead to different health issues, which acupuncture aims to restore that balance, thus improving overall well-being
Acupuncture affects physiological pathways through enhancing microcirculation, regulating the nervous system, and supporting hormonal feedback loops.

Timing?
It could take at least three months for an egg to mature in the ovary before it is released from the follicle, and the same length of time for a new cycle of sperm to form. Based on this biological timeline, what you do in the three months before trying to conceive directly shapes the quality of the egg and sperm environment. So ideally, it is better to support and optimise ovulation and sperm quality during preconception care or IVF support as early as possible to give your body time to build a strong foundation.
Who Is It For?
Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine may support the symptoms associated with:
- Preconception & Cycle Care: Regulating irregular periods, relieving premenstrual symptoms and ovulation discomfort, and optimizing cycle health naturally.
- Condition Support: Supporting Women’s health that could be associated with PCOS, endometriosis, abnormal periods, or luteal phase issues.
- IVF & IUI Support: Coordinate with your fertility specialist to optimize uterine environment, regulate hormones, reduce stress, improve egg quality, enhance success rates, recovery from egg retrievals, and relieve common medication side effects like bloating, hot flashes, and anxiety.
- Male-Factor Fertility: Male factors account for half of all fertility challenges. Acupuncture and Chinese herbalism may support sperm concentration, motility, and enhance state of mind in stress management for partners.
- Pregnancy & Postpartum: Supporting pregnancy wellness, morning sickness, back and hip pain, sleep difficulties, and natural labour and post-birth nourishment.
